This page is for all the birds/animals that I've released over the years. I don't have pictures for some but I'll tell their stories.
In the summer of 2005 a man came in one morning at the SPCA saying he saved some chicks. He went on to explain that there was a construction site right beside his house and he heard the workers saying that they were going to drowned the chicks the following morning. He, being the good man he was, snuck over after dark scooped up the chick and brought them to the shelter for a safe keeping. When I looked in the box they were 2 squakers (pigeon chicks). I raised the brother and sister to maturaty, taught them to fly and fend for themselves, then released them (about August of 2005).
These two now have their own mates and just recently (May) I saw the little female with 2 chicks and her mate by her side.
The male still recognizes me and will sometime hitch a ride on my head to get more food than the others.
A troublesome being turned into a happy ending.
In March a purple finch hit my neighbor's window breaking its beak. I took in for a few days so it could rest and recover. The beak mended and I released it about 5 days later.
